Making Music and Walking on Water

katie performing

God often invites us into ventures we would never have engaged in on our own. He brings us far outside our comfort zone so we learn to fix our eyes on Him as we walk out on the water!

That is where I find myself. I have always written songs and enjoyed knowing that God could use my voice to encourage people and cause them to look to Him, but it was never on a large scale.

During our years walking the darkness of Lyme, that didn’t stop, but perhaps intensified as Jesus because my survival rope, and strength to keep persevering day after day.

About three and a half years ago, three different people who didn’t know me approached me on different occasions and told me God had given me the gift of music and was calling me to share it with the world.

I hadn’t been thinking about making a CD; honestly, I was still dreaming about being strong enough to do a normal day’s activities. But the thought was planted and David too began encouraging me to record the songs.

So we did. At 7 months pregnant, we drove the 11 hour trip to Alberta, and began the initial recording phase. Three years, and a number of trips later, “The Light in the Shadows” was in reproduction.

Then came the question; how to get it into the hands of people who need it? After some research, we settled on Kickstarter; a platform that helped spread the word to fund creative projects.

I liked the opportunity to interact with people and to create different rewards that would add healing and encouraging value for people to choose from over and above a simple download transaction. So we dove in and The Light in the Shadows campaign was launched on November 9th, 2019.

I have been encouraged by the promises God has given us along the way, and when I am tempted to stress over the outcome, He reminds me that He is able to do more than I can imagine and He is One who called me out on the water.

God does not give us gifts just for ourselves – they are also for others.  Our prayer is that everyone who listens to my music will experience the presence and power of God in some way!

Knowing the character go God and His desire for growth for us, I suspect we are always being invited to something out of our comfort zone in some area of life!  Are there things God is inviting you to that make you uncomfortable?

Bless you as you venture boldly out onto the water God has placed before you!
